thinking about hiring a copywriter, but you’ve got some questions?

Here are some useful answers to copywriting FAQ to help you get started, covering everything you need to know about hiring a copywriter.

From whether you need one, the difference between a copywriter and an SEO copywriter to how much a copywriter costs.

If your question isn’t answered here, easy – drop me a line or give me a call and I’ll give you the low down.

What is copywriting?

Copywriting is writing persuasive words for marketing and sales. It’s not only the words (the copy), it’s how they’re presented, and how they take the reader on a journey to take action.

The best copywriting is charming, and compelling and highlights the features, benefits and transformation you promise by choosing your product and/or service.

It drives your audience to do something: Clicking the button, buying something, subscribing or calling – or whatever you want them to do.

Types of copywriting include video scripts, web  sites, sales letters, email sequences, case studies, press releases, blogs, speeches, advertisements, product descriptions or even your business card.

What is SEO copywriting?

SEO copywriting is the combination of targeted copywriting that’s optimised for the search engines like Google.

SEO is short for search engine optimisation.

It’s a bit techy but it’s always written for people, not robots.

Your customers hold the treasure data for SEO copywriting We take time to get to know the people you serve. Then we show them you understand their darkest fears and deepest desires in the copy – because we want to show them why you’re the only person they need.

A professional SEO copywriter understands how search engines process information on the internet and ensures the copy ticks all the boxes.

There’s a lot to SEO copywriting and not just about keywords. It’s about technical stuff like your website load speed, user experience (UX) and search intent. Technical aspects of your website affect how search engines rank your content.

The best SEO copywriters make sure your website is technically sound before writing your copy.

Why? No amount of skillfully crafted words with targeted search terms will fix a broken website.

(I always do a technical audit before I start your copy. HOT TIP: always ask the question.)

Do I need an SEO copywriter?

You need an SEO copywriter if you’re online and ready to put your amazing business in front of the readers who need you most.

SEO copywriters understand what the search engines need to see before they’ll serve up your content in the search results.

They’ll write rich, quality copy that appeals to Google and tickles your customers in all the right places.

Why should I invest in SEO copywriting?

If you’re not optimising your copy so Google can find it, you’re not getting found! There’s no point producing great copy if people can’t find you.

Is social media working for you?

When should I hire an SEO copywriter?

  • Your content isn’t reaching the right people because it’s lost in the search results
  • When people find your copy, it isn’t inspiring them the way you want it to
  • You struggle to write about yourself (I know, right?)
  • You don’t have the time for (or any interest in) SEO or writing for sales
  • You’d like a fresh set of eyes on your magic (and the competitive landscape)

Can you write for my specific industry?

I’ve been around a while and written for lots of different industries. From technology and law to online stores, coaching, travel and loads in between. Even if I haven’t written in your exact area, I’ll get across the complexities and drivers in your specific industry fast.

It’s about asking the right questions to get to the heart of your clients, your brand as well as your niche.

That’s what distinguishes everyday copywriters from the best copywriters.

Are you the right copywriter for me?

It depends on your budget and what you’re after. My clients tell me I’m friendly and professional and I make the process easy – so if that sounds like someone you’d enjoy working with, we’re off to a good start.

If you want a premium service that goes beyond creative writing to strategic writing that’s informed by customer and competitor research, consumer psychology and strategic SEO, then I’m the SEO copywriter for you.

How much does copywriting cost?

My hourly rate is based on typical rates for Australian copywriters with comparable levels of experience.

I’ll give you a comprehensive quote before we start and my price for the project is fixed, so there’s no need to worry about surprises around the corner.

Do you require upfront payment?

I take a 50% project commencement payment to lock your copywriting project into my schedule. Your payment confirms your project and secures your time in my diary.

Because I’m committed to you, I can’t take other clients which means your project commencement fee is non-refundable.

The balance payment is due seven days after delivery of the first draft.

Read more about how I work.

What does your copywriting price include?

Before we start, you’ll get a detailed quote and action plan that outlines exactly what my price includes.

The action plan will lay out every step throughout the project including SEO steps, briefing time, copywriting questionnaire and client interviews, chat time, revisions and proofreading.

You’ll know exactly what you’re getting.

How many changes can I make within the cost?

You get three opportunities to review the copy, so we have plenty of time to get it right.

The first is the outline where I lay out the skeleton of your copy: Bullet point content, SEO information, copy guidelines and rules. Then you’ll get two more drafts and a chance to get the content and tone right.

Then I’ll get a professional proofreader to check every word in the final draft before I hand the copyright to you.

I’m in another country - can you still write my copy?

Of course! I work with clients the world over, including Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Vietnam and more.

The world has no boundaries and neither do I.

Do we need to meet?

We can arrange everything online using your communication tool of choice: Zoom, Google Meet or Skype.

I’m just a phone call away.

After the copy is finished, can we change it?

Once you pay the final invoice, I hand the copyright to you and you’re free to do whatever you please with it.

I present the copy in a copy deck that’s ready for your web developer, along with all the on-page SEO elements you need for any SEO-friendly copywriting. So you can write any new copy you need without having to pay a copywriter.

You’re all set.

How long will it take to write my copy?

This depends on how busy I am and how big your project is.

I’m typically booked four weeks in advance, but there are things we can do in the meantime to get ready. We can make a cracking start once I’m free.

When I give you the action plan I will outline the milestones and deadlines so you plan. My time is as important as yours (and I’m very deadline-driven) so I guarantee my timeline and deliverables so we can all plan ahead.

If you’d like an indication of timing, please get in touch and I’ll let you know once we’ve discussed your project.

Do you offer editing services as well?

Sure. Some clients prefer to write their own content and have me edit their words.

With so many Australian copywriters, why you?

Great question – especially since I’m an Australian copywriter living overseas. You should choose me because I make your copywriting project enjoyable and educational and my SEO-friendly copy comes at a price you can afford.

Plus, you get the peace of mind that comes when someone has crawled around your website and checked it’s ok.

I get most of my work through client referrals and you’re welcome to check out my client testimonials.

I’m sure we’d be a great fit. Get in touch and let’s have a chat.
